SPS TECHNICAL QUALIFICATION STANDARDS

Automotive Electronics Technical Ratings

for Technical Competency Assessment

SPS Technical Qualification Standards (SPS_TQS) is a specialized automotive electronics competency assessment framework designed to extend beyond traditional automotive certification subject areas, incorporating advanced vehicle networking, electronic control systems, module programming, telematics, infotainment, and emerging software-defined vehicle technologies.

Rating Designation Primary competency
SPS_TQS_1_00_00 Electrical Systems Technician Conventional & OBD-I 1986-95
SPS_TQS_2_00_00 Electrical Diagnostic Technician Complex / Advanced Electrical
SPS_TQS_3_00_00 Advanced Diagnostician Specialized Electronics
SPS_TQS_4_00_00 Data Network Specialist Programming & Network Analysis
SPS_TQS_5_00_00 Master Automotive Mechatronics Diagnostician Integration, Communications & Telemetry

The following lists outline the technical knowledge, skills, and competencies associated with each SPS_TQS qualification level. These standards define the areas of expertise technicians are expected to understand and demonstrate through technical competency assessments.

The yellow SPS_TQS identifiers indicate existing competency test questions associated with the corresponding topics. Each identifier follows the format SPS_TQS_L_QQ_RR, where L represents the qualification level (1-5), QQ identifies the question number, and RR indicates the question's revision number.

For example, SPS_TQS_3_05_02 identifies Level 3, Question 5, Revision 2.

Topics without a yellow identifier do not yet have a corresponding competency test question.
